Vettel: "Leclerc and I raced" - F1 RACING WORLD

Today's race was one of those where we heard more action over the team radio than on the track. Right at the beginning Vettel passed Hamilton, lies in the lee of Charles Leclerc and braking for the second turn passed forward.
However, he soon discovered that the Ferrari had a plan to Leclerc help Vettel to pass Hamilton. Of course, Vettel is seen from the perspective that the Leclerc passed without agreement, while the young Monegažanin this time was much quieter in Singapore, and is steadily team told to respect their decision as they put it behind Vettel.

Journalists were interested in what was the deal within Ferrari, and whether Leclerc missed Vettel at the start or it is overtaken Vettel:

I'm not sure what happened, because I think we had an agreement. I spoke with Charles before the race and it was pretty clear. I do not know if I'm missing something, but certainly we will talk about it more. Either way, a difficult day because we wanted to have 1-2 in the end, but we did not succeed.

Directly asked by a journalist what was agreed before the race in the Ferrari, Vettel refused to give a direct answer:

I do not want to share with the public. No big deal, but I do not want to put things in a potentially awkward position because of something someone would say something here and there. I was the third, Charles was the first and we talked about the strategy of how to pass Lewis. I had a good start and there were a couple of options on the table. I'm sorry, but somehow do not want to be at these things in the media

Instead tactics and leaks, he was asked why Vettel and Leclerc simply not raced:

So we are, I think we raced. That's what we did until my pit-stops because I then lost the lead and then the car broke down.

Max Verstappen is well aware that there are a number of young drivers who are going to be competing with him in the future. There are a large number of young drivers in Formula 1 this season and they are all here to stay. The most obvious battle for the years to come is that between Charles Leclerc and Verstappen but the Dutch driver knows that there will be others if they get seats in the top teams.  "He (Charles) is a great driver, but he is not the only one I expect to fight with,"  he said to  Autosport.    “There are young talents such as Lando Norris, as well as George Russell and also Alex Albon. A lot of young talents arrive who can do an excellent job if they have the right car." The future of Formula 1 is bright and with young talent all fighting for the best seats, it's going to be interesting to see who comes out on top.

The former World Champion believes it is now a strange situation at the Scuderia. Vettel overtook Charles Leclerc in the opening stages of the race in Sochi but was expected to let his teammate back in front, as the team gave the Monegasque the preferred strategy. Vettel ignored the order telling his team that Leclerc must catch up if he wanted to pass. The team eventually did the move in the pit stop phase before the German retired with an engine failure. Button has questioned Ferrari's decision to call for Vettel to let his teammate pass him and believes the team are now in a strange position. "I don't understand what they do at Ferrari why keep that deal intact if Vettel was much faster and didn't need any advantage from it?" Button told Speedweek. F1: Vettel penalty boosts Hamilton

The Canadian Grand Prix ended in controversy and a pending Ferrari appeal after Sebastian Vettel crossed the finish line first, but the race was awarded to Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. Vettel was given a five-second penalty by stewards after an incident on lap 48 when he buckled to pressure by Hamilton and ran onto a grass chicane, forcing the Mercedes driver to take evasive action. It was deemed a dangerous re-entry and as stewards handed down the penalty Vettel stayed in front defending the lead. “I had nowhere to go. Seriously, I had nowhere to go,” fumed Vettel over team radio when told of the penalty. “They are stealing the race from us. “No, no, no, no, no, no … Seriously, you need to be an absolute blind man to let him pass and not control your car – where am I supposed to go? This is a wrong world, this is not fair.” Vettel made his point again after the race, switching the No.1 winners sign from Hamilton’s car to his own vacant spot.
